A Perfect Stroll Through the Georgetown Neighborhood

Need a break from the hustle and bustle of college life at Georgetown University? We may be a student storage company, but did you know the students are our employees too? We're confident there's no one better to ask about your off-campus experience than the students who live there. Come visit the Georgetown neighborhood for a day. There are many things to do and places to visit, but only a few make the quintessential Georgetown experience. Don't worry; we'll walk you through the perfect Georgetown day!

Make sure you pick a day where the weather is sunny and mild: not too cold, not too hot! There are many places to go outdoors. Start your day with a morning latte from Café Georgetown.  Make sure you get a printed latte and pick your favorite design to have printed on the foam. Our favorite print is of the Mona Lisa! If you’re a fan of French pastries, grab a croissant from the nearby Boulangerie Christophe. Don’t forget to purchase a baguette for later as well, as they won “best baguette in the US” in 2019! If you prefer something a little more savory, walk a few blocks over to Call Your Mother deli. Known for serving one of the best bagels in DC, this place is sure to meet your breakfast needs. Even President Joe Biden frequents Call Your Mother for his morning snack!

Rowhomes in a Georgetown neighborhood

Now that you’re ready for the day, take a leisurely stroll through the beautiful streets of Georgetown. Many rowhomes that line the neighborhood are historical, so make sure you stop and read the plaques along the way. There’s a lot to learn!  If you make your way up to R Street, the incredible Duke Ellington School of the Arts will be impossible to miss. Its massive white pillars and monumental garden sculptures make for quite the landscape. If you walk up a bit further, you’ll come across the Naval Observatory, where the United States Vice President lives during their time in office.

a View of Georgetown Waterfront

To continue your exploration of Georgetown, walk down to the Georgetown Waterfront Park and take in the breathtaking views of the Potomac River and parts of DC. Art installations, musicians, and food trucks are often lining the path. Walks along the Potomac are about as ‘Georgetown’ as it gets!  Once the croissant or bagel wears off, stop into Farmers Fishers Bakers along the waterfront for lunch. With an extensive menu featuring seafood, pasta, sushi, comfort food, and more, there is certainly a little something for everyone. If you go between 3:30 pm and 5:30 pm on a weekday, you can also score some great happy hour deals! Ask for a table outside – the breeze along the water is quite enjoyable.

Once lunch is over, make your way over to M Street for the best of Georgetown’s shopping.  With everything from large retailers to small boutiques to antique stores, M Street shopping is some of the best in the city! Venture down Cady’s Alley for a District Donut, or indulge in a cupcake from Baked and Wired. If you prefer your afternoon pick-me-up in liquid form, grab a coffee from DC’s own Compass Coffee. The massive movie theater-style sign in front of Compass Coffee makes for the perfect Georgetown photo-op!

After shopping up an appetite, there are plenty of options along M Street and Wisconsin Avenue for a great dinner.  For the most authentic Georgetown experience, grab a booth at Martin’s Tavern on Wisconsin Ave. and N St. If you’re lucky, you’ll be seated in the booth where John F. Kennedy proposed to Jackie!  Make sure to try their Martin’s Delight or French Onion Soup.

As the night comes to an end, finish out your perfect Georgetown Day with a dessert from Thomas Sweet. The line is likely to be long, but it moves quickly, and the desserts are worth the wait! It’s always a good bet to share something there since the portions come out bigger than you could eat! Ending the night at the Thomas Sweet picnic tables surely rounds out the day.

So there ya have it – the quintessential day in the Georgetown neighborhood-- as told by your local storage company student guide. Next time, we’ll show you some of the less mainstream spots to try. But, for now, enjoy!
