Customizing Your Website

April 25, 2021

Beginning a company is a challenging task, and as an entrepreneur, you only want to see your company thrive. At the start, you might think as a small company how important could a website really be? A key part of your business no matter how big or small is how you’re going to reach your audience. Reaching your audience these days has all come down to social media, and your website. Not only having these resources but using them in a way to draw people in along with marketing your company in a way to successfully sell your brand. Creating a website that is interesting but also personal allows the viewer to get to know you and show that you are relatable. So, you might be asking yourself, well, how do I design my brand in a way to do that, do I need to use a website builder? With these tips, you can transform your brand's website into something enticing to your audience and anyone that stumbles onto it.

First Things First

Some of the first things you want to think about when designing your website are, who is your target audience? This question allows you to address the age range, maybe a younger audience, more mature, or maybe there’s no age range at all and your product is for everyone. Why you want to address the age range is that allows you to tailor your website to not only your brand but also your customers, making it something you know they’ll be intrigued by. Something some people don’t think about is the font used. This is a simple yet effective way for you to completely alter the appearance of your website, you can modernize, create an artistic look, use the classic font, whatever you want depending on your company and the audience.

Do You Judge A Book By Its Cover?

A good way to think of what will grab the audience's attention is to think of what you notice first when you click on a website? Or when you pick up a book, you look at the font, along with the colors that are on the cover. The colors on your website should correspond with your company and your product or your marketing. The colors should also appeal to the audience, this could be one of the most important because colors can make or break a website. With no color, a website can easily look boring but with too much, it can look unprofessional and messy. You want to find somewhere in the middle that is professional and exciting to look at while still selling your product.

Visually Enticing

Noticing a font, and colors are towards the top of the list, but what might be the most important is the image you have on your website. If you decide you want a picture or a design of some sort it signifies what your company is about and what it is you’re selling or marketing. Not only are pictures or designs going to add color to your website, but they can also break up the words on the page allowing it to flow better and possibly make the website look less like a paper.

Spacing Things Out

When putting information on your website, it is important to remember, you’re not writing a research paper. To keep your audience's attention, it is important to introduce your services or your product with a few simple words and having a slogan. You can go into more detail somewhere else on your website, what’s important is the first impression they get and if you have a phrase they can remember, they will remember your services or product. In addition to having this, you can also space things out according to different tabs. Organizing all of the information you want to put on your website and creating separate tabs for it will make it easily accessible and create a way for people to browse your site and find exactly what they’re looking for. This also gives you a way to keep the front page of your website visually appealing and dedicating the other pages to more information but ensuring they still flow with the same theme of the font and colors. This allows you to be creative and still include all the information you want on your website.

Moving Bits

When you click on a website, sometimes what can grab your attention is a moving caption, a transition, or a picture that fades in. Incorporating movement into your website can be a simple yet effective way to draw the reader's eyes right where you want them. Implementing this by putting in a title that transitions in draws the reader's eyes to that specific place and allows you to also be creative with it. This also allows the possibility for you to put more things on your website and transition them out, so it doesn’t get crowded.

A Way To Stay Connected

A way to possibly ensure the viewer will visit your website again is by giving them a way to connect or a reason to come back to the website. If you have a weekly newsletter, blogs, emails, whatever it is, you want them to know about it. By putting a place on the opening page of your website for them to put their email or phone number, it ensures that they will get notifications of any upcoming news, or sales. When these emails are sent out, signing them with your first name and making sure you state you are the founder shows you are in touch with your company unlike some of the big-name brands. This can give your newsletters, texts, emails, etc. a more personal touch.

Piecing It All Together

When creating your website it’s important to pay attention to the details big or small

• Font- This can appeal to the age range you are trying to reach depending on what you choose.

• Colors- The colors of your website can brighten up your website, and make it more exciting. Coordinating the colors can also make the website flow in a way that plain black and white cant always do.

• Pictures and Graphic design- This can portray your company along with your slogan giving the viewer a snapshot of what you want them to know.

• Memorable slogan- This works to stick with the reader so when they think of your company they associate it with this

• Organized page- Having an organized page allows for easy access and accessibility.

• Movement- This draws attention to areas you want and brings life to your website.

• Connection- Making an easy way for potential customers to hear about new products is important, so giving them a way to connect is essential to know they are hearing about the latest things going on!

Up And Running

As an entrepreneur, it can be difficult to sometimes know where to get started after you’ve gotten things up and running. Investing some of your time into making not only a website but one that is unique and customized sets you apart from your competitors. Although it may seem like there are a lot of steps, once you get started and begin to see the progress you’re making, it's all worth it when its something you know will reach your audience. Customizing your website could also make things a bit easier for you. Just starting up your own business is taking up all of your time and you don’t have much extra time to respond to hundreds of emails with questions about your product or services? Having an organized website with a question and answer page allows you to direct customers to this page, and your website, so you are saving time but still responding to them in a timely manner.
