Cal Poly San Luis Obispo runs on the quarter system -- which means students face move-out logistics not once but potentially three times a year. Spring quarter ends in mid-June, and housing closes at 5 PM on the Sunday following finals. That gives you 24 hours after your last exam to clear out. For the roughly 8,000 students in campus housing, that's a compressed window in a city that's more coastal town than major metro. San Luis Obispo has about 47,000 residents, and when Cal Poly's 22,000 students start moving simultaneously, the limited infrastructure shows. Truck rentals vanish. The handful of local storage facilities fill up. And SLO's famous laid-back vibe gives way to move-out stress.

Storage Scholars is the #1-ranked student storage service in San Luis Obispo. We come to your dorm room or apartment, pick up your belongings with packing supplies included, store everything in a climate-controlled facility, and deliver it all back when you return. No fighting for the last U-Haul in a town with one rental location. No driving your stuff two hours to Santa Barbara or three hours to the Bay Area because SLO's storage is booked. No leaving your belongings in a unit where they sit untouched while you're home for the summer.

San Luis Obispo's climate is famously mild -- the "SLO life" reputation is well-earned. But mild doesn't mean risk-free for stored belongings. Coastal fog brings moisture. Summer days can still hit the 80s and 90s, and inland areas around SLO get notably warmer than the coast. The bigger factor is dust and pests. SLO's semi-arid landscape means non-sealed storage can accumulate dust, and the agricultural areas surrounding the city bring their share of pests. A cheap, non-climate-controlled unit might not bake your stuff like Texas, but it creates its own problems over a three-month summer.

Storage Scholars provides climate-controlled storage that keeps your belongings clean, dry, and protected. Our team coordinates with Cal Poly's housing calendar, picks up from your room with packing supplies included, and stores everything in a regulated facility. From June through September -- or longer, if you need it -- your stuff stays in the same condition you left it.

Cal Poly draws students from across California and beyond. The majority come from the Bay Area, Los Angeles, and Southern California -- all of which are multi-hour drives from SLO. Highway 101 and the 46 are the main routes in, and neither is a quick trip with a loaded car. For freshmen without vehicles, or anyone flying into the nearest major airport (SBP in SLO, or SBA in Santa Barbara), shipping your belongings ahead makes more sense. We receive your packages at our SLO facility and deliver them directly to your dorm on move-in day. You show up ready for WOW Week, not hauling boxes.

Whether you're moving from Yosemite Hall to an apartment on Foothill Boulevard, switching from Sierra Madre to a rental near downtown SLO, or relocating from campus to housing in Los Osos or Morro Bay, our team handles the physical work. Cal Poly's campus is built into the hills -- "Learn by Doing" apparently extends to learning how to carry a mini-fridge up a slope. Parking near the dorms during move-out is extremely limited, and the campus roads aren't designed for heavy moving traffic. We know the campus, the loading zones, and how to navigate the terrain.
