Moving Services in St. Louis
St. Louis is a two-campus college storage market with distinct logistical challenges at each school. Washington University sits on the western edge of the city along the border of Clayton and University City, with the 169-acre Danforth Campus nestled against Forest Park. Saint Louis University anchors Midtown, its campus stretching along Grand Boulevard between the Central West End and the Cortex Innovation District. Students at both schools face the same end-of-year problem: where does everything go in May when your lease ends or the residence halls close?
Storage Scholars serves both WashU and SLU with full-service student storage. We pick up your belongings from your room, store everything in a secure, climate-controlled facility, and deliver it back when you return in the fall. No renting a U-Haul. No navigating the tight turns in WashU's South 40 parking areas. No dragging furniture down Grand Boulevard in the Missouri heat. We handle the logistics so you can focus on finals.
St. Louis summers are punishing on stored belongings. Average highs reach 89 degrees in July, humidity peaks near 68 percent, and the combination creates conditions that warp wood furniture, degrade electronics, and promote mold on fabrics and paper. A non-climate-controlled self-storage unit on Manchester Road or Natural Bridge Avenue will expose your belongings to exactly those conditions for four months straight.
Storage Scholars stores everything in a climate-controlled facility with consistent temperature and humidity regulation. Whether you are storing a laptop, a microwave, winter clothes, or a couch, your items stay protected through the worst of the St. Louis summer. Storage periods align with each school's academic calendar, so you are covered from move-out through fall move-in.
Flying into St. Louis Lambert International Airport for the first time? Driving from out of state and dreading the packing logistics? Our ship-to-school service lets you box up your belongings at home and ship them directly to us. We receive your shipments, hold them securely, and deliver everything to your dorm room on move-in day. No overweight luggage fees. No cramming a minivan full of dorm supplies down I-64 through downtown.
Moving between dorms on the South 40 at WashU, transitioning from SLU's Grand Hall to an off-campus apartment in the Central West End, or relocating across town for a summer internship at the Cortex district -- our moving team handles it. We know the building access rules, the loading dock schedules, and the parking constraints that make campus moves in St. Louis uniquely frustrating.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Storage Scholars provides full-service student storage at both Washington University in St. Louis and Saint Louis University. Even though the campuses are several miles apart -- WashU sits on the western edge of the city near Clayton and Forest Park, while SLU is in Midtown near Grand Boulevard -- we serve both with the same door-to-door pickup and delivery model. Select your school when you book, and our team handles the rest based on your campus's specific move-out schedule and building access procedures.
St. Louis has one of the most extreme summer climates of any major college city in the Midwest. July average highs reach 89 degrees, humidity regularly exceeds 65 percent, and the city sits in the Mississippi River valley where heat and moisture compound. Non-climate-controlled storage units in the area can reach internal temperatures well above 100 degrees during heat waves. That kind of exposure warps wooden furniture, damages laptop batteries and electronics, promotes mold growth on clothing and textbooks, and can ruin leather goods. All Storage Scholars storage is climate-controlled with consistent temperature and humidity regulation throughout the summer.
University Trucking has been WashU's historically preferred vendor and charges a $49 registration fee that includes a packing kit with five boxes, tape, and bubble wrap. Additional kits cost $30 each, and storage is billed per item after pickup. Storage Scholars also serves WashU students with a similar full-service model: we come to your dorm, pick up your belongings, store them in a climate-controlled facility, and deliver everything back in the fall. The key differences are in pricing transparency, packing supply inclusion, and service flexibility. We recommend comparing both options for your specific storage needs and item count.
Yes. The South 40 is WashU's primary residential area, home to most freshman and sophomore housing along Shepley Drive in Clayton. Our team is familiar with the South 40's layout, building access points, and the limited vehicle access that makes traditional moving difficult there. We come directly to your room, so you do not need to worry about getting a truck close to your building or navigating the congested streets around the residential quad during move-out week.
Absolutely. We pick up from SLU's on-campus housing, including Grand Hall, Griesedieck Hall, Reinert Hall, and the Grand Forest Apartments on the east side of campus. We also serve students in popular off-campus areas near SLU, including apartments along Grand Boulevard, in the Central West End, and in the Midtown and Grand Center neighborhoods. If you live within the SLU campus area, we will come to your door.
Book by early March if possible. Spring finals at WashU typically fall in mid-May, and SLU's schedule is similar. Pickup slots fill up as finals approach, especially during the last week of classes and the first few days after exams end. Early booking also helps us coordinate with your school's specific move-out deadlines. WashU, for example, charges a $50 improper checkout fine plus $60 per night for students who miss their move-out deadline, so having storage pickup scheduled before your checkout time eliminates that risk.
We handle everything from boxes of clothes and textbooks to mini-fridges, futons, and full-size couches. Our team manages the heavy lifting, loading, and transport. Large items are stored securely in our climate-controlled facility alongside your boxes. This is especially relevant for WashU students moving out of the South 40's furnished-to-unfurnished transitions, and for SLU students who furnish their own apartments in Grand Forest. There are no separate surcharges for large or heavy items.
