Philadelphia has one of the densest concentrations of colleges and universities on the East Coast. UPenn and Drexel share University City, Temple sprawls across North Philadelphia, Villanova sits 30 minutes out on the Main Line, and Curtis Institute occupies a few blocks in Rittenhouse Square. Together they produce a spring move-out crush that turns West Philly's narrow streets into a slow-motion traffic jam of rental trucks, double-parked cars, and students hauling furniture down rowhouse stoops.

The traditional approach -- rent a U-Haul, drive to a self-storage place on Delaware Avenue, load your stuff, repeat two months later -- doesn't work well in Philadelphia. The city's rowhouse architecture means tight doorways, steep staircases, and no elevators. Street parking is a daily battle on blocks near campus, and the Philadelphia Parking Authority is famously unforgiving. A 5x5 storage unit at Extra Space Storage or CubeSmart near University City runs $80 to $130 per month, but that doesn't include the cost of getting your stuff there.

Storage Scholars handles everything. We come directly to your dorm room or off-campus apartment, pack and pick up your belongings, store them in a climate-controlled facility, and deliver everything back when you return. Five Philadelphia-area schools. One service that works the same way at every campus.

Philadelphia summers combine Atlantic seaboard heat with urban humidity. Temperatures hit the 90s routinely from June through August, and the city's dense brick and concrete architecture traps heat in ways that make non-air-conditioned spaces unbearable. Humidity regularly exceeds 70%, which is the threshold where mold begins to grow on fabric, paper, and leather. A non-climate-controlled storage unit in South Philly or along the Delaware River waterfront can turn into a sauna by mid-July.

Storage Scholars' summer storage protects your belongings with consistent climate control for the entire summer. Electronics, musical instruments (especially relevant for Curtis Institute students), textbooks, and wooden furniture all stay at stable temperature and humidity levels.

We align pickups with each school's academic calendar. UPenn and Drexel wrap up in mid-May, Temple typically ends in late April to early May, Villanova finishes around the same time, and Curtis operates on its own conservatory schedule. We coordinate with each timeline individually.

Coming to Philadelphia from out of state? Our ship-to-school service lets you send your belongings ahead and skip the overloaded car or expensive checked bags. We receive your shipments, store them, and deliver everything to your dorm room on move-in day.

This is especially useful for UPenn freshmen in the Quad and Drexel students in Towers or Race Hall, where move-in day traffic on Locust Walk and Chestnut Street makes unloading a vehicle an exhausting, multi-hour process. Ship ahead, fly in, and walk into a room that's already set up.

Philadelphia's housing stock creates unique moving challenges. The city's signature rowhouses have narrow front doors, steep interior staircases, and tight hallways that make moving large furniture a puzzle. Off-campus housing near UPenn in Spruce Hill and near Temple in North Philly tends to be in older buildings with the same constraints. Drexel students often live in the high-rises along Chestnut and Market, which require elevator reservations and loading dock scheduling.

Our team knows the building-specific logistics: which UPenn dorms have service elevators, which Temple halls require security escorts, which Drexel buildings have loading docks vs. street-only access. We handle inter-campus moves, dorm-to-apartment transitions, and end-of-year storage with the same process.
