The Wasatch Front is one of America's densest college corridors, stretching from the University of Utah perched in the foothills above Salt Lake City to Brigham Young University 45 miles south in Provo, with Westminster University in the Sugar House neighborhood and Utah Valley University in Orem filling in the space between. Together, these schools serve over 100,000 students who cycle in and out of housing each spring and fall. The end of every academic year brings the same scramble: dorms empty, leases expire, and students face the challenge of storing a room full of belongings through the summer in a region where mountain weather creates its own storage complications.
Salt Lake City's climate is deceptively varied. Summers are hot and dry, with temperatures regularly reaching the mid-90s and intense UV exposure at the city's 4,300-foot elevation. Winters bring heavy snow, sub-zero wind chills, and the inversion layer that traps cold air in the valley for weeks. These temperature extremes, combined with the altitude's effects on dry air and material degradation, make climate-controlled storage a necessity rather than a luxury for students leaving belongings behind for any extended period. Storage Scholars provides an all-inclusive, door-to-door service with climate-controlled facilities designed for the specific conditions of the Salt Lake Valley and Utah County.
Salt Lake summers bring consistent heat with low humidity, pushing into the 90s with direct sun that is amplified by the altitude. Inside a non-climate-controlled storage unit in the industrial areas along 300 West or near the rail yards south of downtown, temperatures can exceed 120 degrees on peak summer days. The dry air at altitude accelerates cracking in leather, warping in wood, and degradation of adhesives and plastics. Winter brings the opposite problem: prolonged cold, moisture from snowmelt, and the damp conditions created by the valley inversion. Storage Scholars' facilities maintain consistent temperature and humidity levels year-round, protecting belongings from both the summer heat and winter cold that define the Wasatch Front.
Salt Lake City International Airport underwent a major terminal modernization and is now a Delta hub serving students from across the country. Many University of Utah and BYU students fly in from out of state, and the I-15 corridor brings students driving from Nevada, Idaho, and Colorado. Storage Scholars' Ship-to-School service lets you send boxes, furniture, and dorm supplies to our Salt Lake City facility before you arrive. We hold your shipments securely and deliver everything to your dorm or apartment on move-in day. No need to rent a car at the airport, borrow an SUV, or attempt to transport a semester's worth of belongings on TRAX.
Moving around the University of Utah's campus in the upper Avenues presents particular challenges. The steep streets above South Campus Drive, limited parking near the Heritage Commons and Lassonde Studios residence halls, and the one-way patterns through the medical campus make truck access difficult. Westminster University's Sugar House location has better street access but limited loading zones. BYU's Provo campus, 45 miles south on I-15, has its own parking complexities around Heritage Halls and Helaman Halls. Storage Scholars handles all transportation across the Wasatch Front, from the U of U's foothill campus to BYU's Provo location, with teams that know the elevation changes, campus access restrictions, and the I-15 corridor between the two cities.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Our service covers the entire Wasatch Front, from Salt Lake City to Provo and the surrounding Utah County area. BYU students in Provo and Orem receive the same door-to-door pickup and delivery service as University of Utah students in Salt Lake City. There is no price difference based on location within our service area.
Absolutely. We offer flexible storage durations, including extended periods of a year, 18 months, or two years that accommodate LDS mission timelines. You can schedule delivery for whenever you return, and we will hold your belongings safely until then.
Salt Lake City's 4,300-foot elevation means lower air pressure, more intense UV radiation, and very dry air. These conditions can accelerate cracking in leather, drying of wood, and degradation of certain plastics and adhesives over time. Our climate-controlled facilities maintain consistent humidity levels that counteract the dry mountain air, and items are stored away from UV exposure.
The University of Utah's spring semester ends in late April, while BYU's winter semester ends in mid-April. The overlap in late April creates peak demand. Westminster follows a similar late-April timeline. We recommend booking at least two weeks in advance for April and early May pickup dates.
Our teams are experienced with the University of Utah's campus access system. We coordinate with campus logistics and use appropriately sized vehicles that can navigate the loading zones near residence halls, even in the steep upper-campus areas near the Marriott Library and student housing.
Yes. UVU's Orem campus is within our Wasatch Front service area, between our Salt Lake City base and BYU's Provo campus. We serve UVU students with the same pricing and service level as all other schools in the corridor.
Costs vary based on the number and size of items, but most students storing 8 to 15 items (bed, desk, boxes, mini-fridge, etc.) from a typical dorm room find that our all-inclusive pricing is competitive with renting a 5x10 self-storage unit ($44+ per month in SLC) plus the cost of truck rental, gas, and packing supplies. The key difference is that our price includes all transportation and supplies, with no additional costs.
