How much does it cost to keep things in storage?
For a college student's summer, Storage Scholars covers a typical 5-to-10-item dorm load for $250 to $400 over four months. That includes dorm-door pickup, free boxes, four months of storage, and August delivery. Self-storage looks cheaper on the sticker but adds a U-Haul both ends. A 5x5 runs $40 to $75 a month, a 5x10 $60 to $110, a 10x10 $130 to $200, and a 10x20 $200 to $300. Climate control adds 25 to 50 percent. Most facilities also charge a $15 to $40 admin fee and required insurance at $10 to $25 a month. If your student lives within driving distance and has parent truck space, self-storage often wins.
