The short answer comes first, then the detail behind it.
No. Storage Scholars bills only what is on its published price list: $14 to $40 per item per month by size tier, a four month minimum stated at signup, and extras you choose or trigger. The extras people ask about most are a move outside your campus dates (up to $300), Ship to School ($50 per item) and packing help ($50 to $250).
Each item is measured, photographed and logged at pickup, and that record sets its tier. If more items go on the truck than were counted in your estimate, the total rises with them. Open the itemized breakdown in your portal, and call us if a tier looks wrong.
Yes. Every Storage Scholars order carries a four month minimum billing term, a term of sale disclosed before you pay. So six weeks of storage still bills four months. The minimum does not hold your belongings: you can request delivery whenever you want them back.
Pickup and delivery are free on the dates Storage Scholars sets for each campus. A move on any other date needs a dedicated truck and a two person crew. Storage Scholars passes that cost through, up to $300.
Check your school's dates on Important Campus Dates before you book. Students going abroad can store for up to 270 days, billed month to month after the first four months.
Every order automatically includes value protection at $0.60 per pound, and you can add Basic ($1,000) or Premium ($2,500) value protection before pickup. 1.01% of Storage Scholars moves led to a claim as of September 2026. Every item is photographed and logged at pickup, so a claim starts from a record of what you handed over.
Basic is $15 a month and covers up to $1,000. Premium covers up to $2,500. Both are added before pickup.
Storage Scholars delivers on the move-in dates it sets for each campus, posted each spring and timed to the school's move-in week. At partner schools with keyed residence-hall access, belongings can be delivered to a student's new room before they return to campus.
Every item is logged at pickup, and students and parents can check its status in the online portal until it is delivered.
One. A customer filed a lawsuit after belongings stored for three University of Richmond students went missing from a third-party storage facility in 2025. The lawsuit has been amicably resolved, and Storage Scholars made all three students whole. Storage Scholars is BBB accredited with an A rating, and complaints and its replies are public on its BBB profile.
