I Finally Fixed My Closet Problem in College

Sam Chason

January 16, 2026

I did not realize how bad my closet situation was until I stood in front of it one morning and said, out loud, “I have nothing to wear.”

That sentence made no sense, because my room was full of clothes.

Too Many Clothes, Still Nothing to Wear

At home, my closet was organized. On campus, it was chaos. Jackets I only wore once a week. Dresses for events that had already passed. Shoes I loved but barely used. Seasonal outfits mixed together like they all belonged in the same tiny space.

Every morning became a guessing game. I would pull things out, make a mess, change three times, and still feel uncomfortable with what I picked.

It was frustrating and honestly exhausting.

When Fashion Turns Into Stress

I love fashion. Expressing myself through what I wear matters to me. But in college, it stopped feeling fun. My clothes felt like clutter instead of creativity.

My chair became a pile of outfits I tried on and rejected. My bed turned into a sorting station. My floor was never clear.

Instead of feeling confident, I felt overwhelmed.

Making Space Without Giving Things Up

I did not want to donate or get rid of clothes I actually liked. I just did not need all of them right now.

I packed away anything that was off season, rarely worn, or saved for special occasions. Jackets, boots, formal outfits, extra bags.

Using Storage Scholars let me store those pieces without losing them. They were safe, organized, and out of my room.

The Difference Was Immediate

Suddenly, my closet made sense. Every piece left had a purpose. Getting dressed became faster and way less stressful.

I could see my outfits clearly. I started styling pieces differently because I was not overwhelmed by options. Fashion became fun again instead of frustrating.

Even my room looked better, which was an unexpected bonus.

What I Learned From This

College teaches you a lot about balance. You do not need to have everything with you all the time. You just need what fits your current season.

Storage Scholars helped me rotate my wardrobe without giving up my style. That flexibility changed how I approach both fashion and organization.

Final Thoughts

Your dorm room is small, but your life is not. It is okay to store parts of it for later.

If your clothes are stressing you out instead of inspiring you, it might be time to give your wardrobe some breathing room. Once I did, everything felt easier.

And honestly, getting dressed should never be the hardest part of your day.
